Long ago, a herd of elephants used to march through a village every day to drink water. On their way, they trampled the homes of tiny mice.

The mice went to the elephant king and said, “O mighty ones, please take another path. You crush our homes and families!”

The elephant king said kindly, “We didn’t realize. Forgive us—we’ll change our path.”

Later, the elephants were caught in strong nets by hunters. The mice heard their cries and came to help. They nibbled and chewed the ropes until all the elephants were free!

The elephant king bowed his head. “Even the smallest can be great friends.”
